On The Town

Directors: Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly

Starring: Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Jules Munshin, Ann Miller. USA 1949. 98 mins.

Producer Arthur Freed turned New York into a giant sound stage for this hectic 'sailors on leave' romantic comedy, which is notable not only for the superb Leonard Bernstein score but also for the musical numbers shot on location. Few dance sequences in film are as fresh, exhilarating and imaginative as the ballet on top of the Empire State Building.
