Two separate tractor trailer crashes close Highway 401 in both directions Thursday night

Twin tractor trailer crashes closed Highway 401 in both directions Thursday night.

Around 7 p.m., a tractor trailer travelling east on Highway 401, north-east of Leamington, lost control, jack-knifed and struck the highway barrier. Police say no one was hurt in the crash. Police say they expect the highway to be closed heading east for three hours.

Just before 6 p.m., a tractor trailer travelling west on the 401, south of Chatham, lost control, bounced off the outside cement barrier of the highway and into the centre barrier. It was pushed into the eastbound lane and the tractor trailer caught on fire.

Police responded to the fire and closed the highway in both directions near Communication Road. The eastbound highway has since been opened. The westbound highway is still closed. Police say no one was hurt in the crash.
