The UK is no longer one of the most expensive countries for immigrants and foreign businessmen. Brexit and political instability hit the national currency, reducing the rate of the British pound sterling by 13%. Now foreign staff working in the United Kingdom can get a little more goods and services for the same salary.
Earlier in the annual Mercer ranking, London was ranked 17th in the cost of living, but now it has dropped to 30 position. This rating is focused on the world elite and studies prices for luxury goods, expensive services and products in order to analyze the living standards in different countries of the world. Lloyds Bank reported the fall in sales of housing in London. According to Mercer, rental housing in the prestigious part of London will cost about 3200 pounds per month.
Approximately the same housing will cost 5470 pounds sterling in Hong Kong, 4005 pounds in New York. At the same time, the most expensive place for international expatriate is the capital of Angola - Luanda. Here, elite real estate is more expensive than in London - a two-bedroom apartment is 4,806 pounds a month. Even such things as jeans, fast food and mineral water in Luanda are more expensive, although some products, including gasoline, are cheaper. Such high costs in the capital of Angola exist due, first of all, to the costs of security.
Next in the ranking of the most expensive cities goes Hong Kong, which took first place last year, followed by Tokyo, Zurich and Singapore.
