This summer, visitors of British festivals will be able to check the drugs they have brought for the maintenance of hazardous chemicals. At the same time, those who have cocaine and ecstasy were promised that they would not be arrested if they brought the substances for inspection. The use of this service was already possible at the Kendal Calling festival.
"We understand that some people will buy drugs on the spot. Some of them plan to take drugs with them. Therefore, we are trying to solve any potential health problems. I emphasize - the focus is on health, not justice," - said Fiona Misham, director of the charity organization “The Loop”. Misham assures that every fifth visitor asks charity to dispose the substances after they have been tested.
Previously, traces of insecticides, drugs for malaria and even cement were already found in narcotic substances. Nevertheless, this seemingly useful initiative was criticized by organizations that oppose the use of drugs. David Rains from the National Union for the Prevention of Drug Addiction said that such actions make drug use an ordinary thing.
In recent years, several British people died at British festivals from the use of low-quality drugs. Therefore, this summer, six festivals will provide drug testing services.
