A new railway line to a major housing development in east London was today given the go-ahead by the government.
The 4.5km link from Barking to Barking Riverside will 'unlock' the building of almost 11,000 homes, claimed City Hall - writes itv.com.
The £263m new railway is an extension to the existing Overground line from Gospel Oak to Barking.
Barking Riverside is a 180 hectare brownfield site on the north bank of the River Thames.
The new suburb, described as one of east London's largest developments, will be served by four trains an hour from 2021.
Barking Riverside has huge potential to deliver thousands of much needed affordable homes and the extension of the Overground will ensure residents have the high quality transport links they need, both to the surrounding area and commuting into central London.
– SADIQ KHAN, MAYOR OF LONDON
