Points failure means more disruption at London Waterloo

A points failure outside London Waterloo meant more delays to services already disrupted by a huge improvement programme.

The problem meant South West Train services were delayed to and from Waterloo by up to 45 minutes, with disruption expected to last until mid-afternoon.

Ten platforms, half the station, have been closed since the weekend as part of an £800 Network Rail rebuilding programme. The points failure affected five platforms this morning.

As platforms one to 10 were already closed due to planned works, the closure of five additional platforms has caused severe delays.

To ease congestion and to return the service to normal, some short-notice alterations will be necessary.
