The authorities of the British capital intend to turn London into ecologically clean city by 2050. As the mayor of the capital Sadik Khan noted, by this time the entire urban transport infrastructure will stop producing harmful emissions into the atmosphere. According to the plan of the City Hall, the number of trips of vehicles along the streets of the city is planned to be reduced to three million a day.
In parallel, the authorities will make efforts to increase the number of citizens who get to the place on foot or by bicycle. And public transport will almost completely replace personal cars. Sadik Khan stressed that improvement of the city's cleanliness is necessary, since in the next 25 years its population will increase to 10.5 million people.
Experts have already called the London City Hall project ambitious, but attractive. In the long term, many British cities can follow the same example. In addition to harm to health, cars are a constant threat to the safety of citizens, so reducing the number of vehicles in London will reduce the number of traffic accidents, added Sadik Khan.
