Greener travel, accident reduction and better roads are at the heart of Haringey’s transport plans.
On the road to even better transport
More than £10million is being invested into the borough’s highways this year as part of the council’s continued commitment to providing a high quality, reliable and accessible transport network across the borough - writes haringey.gov.uk.
Under the sustainable transport plans, £4million will go into improving roads, footways and street lighting, while cash from Transport for London means £475,000 will go directly into accident reduction and road safety schemes.
The £10.1million investment – made up of almost £5million of council funds and the rest from external sources including TfL and the Greater London Authority – also looks to make our borough greener, by encouraging cycling and walking.
Haringey residents will continue to have access to free bike training through Cycling Instructor ( http://www.cyclinginstructor.com/cycle_training_haringey ) and our teams will work with schools and offer grants to encourage cycling from a young age. A further £40,000 from TfL means there will be Active Travel grants to encourage community group members to car-share, walk or cycle.
Cllr Peray Ahmet, Cabinet Member for Environment, said:
“This £10million of investment will help us continue to create a transport network that works for everyone in Haringey. From cutting congestion to encouraging people to get out on their bikes, we will work with residents to keep the borough moving as safely and efficiently as possible.”

Details of how to apply for Active Travel grants will be online in December.
Our Transport Strategy – due later this year – will have more information on how we plan to make active travel an easier choice, and how we will help to develop a well maintained and even better connected transport network.
