Thousands of jobs up for grabs at London and Area Works Job Fair

Thirty jobs at spice manufacturer McCormicks are among the thousands of positions up for grabs at a regional job fair in London on Tuesday.

The semi-annual London and Area Works Job Fair is scheduled for the Western Fair District’s Agriplex from 2 p.m to 7 p.m.

More than 50 employers, offering a total of 2,300 jobs, have registered to attend the event, along with a number of employment and training agencies - writes lfpress.com.

About 2,000 job seekers are expected to attend, and organizers advise them to bring their resumes. McCormick Canada in London, which produces Club House Spices and Billy Bee honey, is looking for 30 production employees to keep up with increased demand.

The jobs pay $19.27 an hour to start for full-time, permanent employees and include benefits.

“We have many of these job openings because others have moved up in the organization, so you’ll find exciting opportunities to advance,” said McCormick Canada plant manager Jerry Nelemans.

Although the unemployment rate in the London St. Thomas area is down to 5.4 per cent, the number of adults not in the workforce has grown to 24 per cent.

Rob Collins of the London Economic Development Corp., said the personal contact made possible through job fairs is still the most popular hiring method for employers.
