The cost of repairing the Elizabeth Tower of the Westminster Palace, known due to the clock and Big Ben bell, will grow significantly. This became known during the next parliamentary meeting. Originally, in 2016, the project for the reconstruction of the tower with the legendary clock was estimated at £ 29 million. But just recently at a meeting in parliament, it became clear that these funds are definitely not enough. The new estimate was doubled and it is £ 61 million now.
According to the executing agent, in the course of a detailed survey of the state of the building, it turned out that it requires a deeper reconstruction than originally planned. Recalling, since August 21th, Big Ben was silent because of the repair. They did this because the deafening sound of the bell allegedly created a threat to the health of the workers involved in the reconstruction.
