The company-operator of the network of railways intends to launch trains on some city routes, which will run without the help of machinists. It is planned that the Thameslink line, which passes through central London, will become a platform for testing autonomous trains that will accelerate and brake more efficiently than drivers do. This will ensure a time interval of 2.5 minutes between the departure and arrival of trains, as in the metro.
It is also expected that the innovative technical solution will improve the quality of passenger transportation services by 60%. In order to avoid incidents, a person responsible for monitoring the opening and closing of doors and observing the order while driving will stay in the driver's cab. Should be noted that there is already experience of using autonomous trains on London metro routes. In particular, they can be found at the Northern and Victoria train stations.
