Independent living nailed down

A report seeking approval to award the contract for Visram House's care and support services will be discussed by the Council's Cabinet later this month.

Visram House is a new Extra Care Housing Scheme (ECH) at Park Royal which will provide 99 modern units of accommodation in total, consisting of 84 self-contained one-bedroom flats and 15 two-bedroom flats for people aged 50+ with care and support needs - writes brent.gov.uk.

The scheme is part of the New Accommodation Independent Living (NAIL) programme which will deliver at least 700 new units of accommodation to provide alternatives to residential and nursing care by the end of 2020/21.

Cllr Krupesh Hirani, Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing, said:

"I am really pleased that the Council have been able to work in partnership to develop Visram House which will provide 99 new units of brand new, high-spec, extra care accommodation, giving older people who require care and support the option to live independently for as long as possible.

"The NAIL programme was created to offer residents a less restrictive form of accommodation where they are provided with greater choice and control over their day to day lives.

"They are able to live in their own homes with their own front doors but have access to communal spaces and a care team who are on site 24 hours a day to provide care and support when they need it."
