Residents support latest measures to reduce rat running in Hackney

Several streets around Frampton Park Road will be closed to through traffic and the environment will be improved with new trees.

In a recent consultation with residents and businesses, 66% of respondents supported the measures which will reduce traffic and make the area safer for walking and cycling - writes

The junctions of Darnley Road with Elsdale Street and Loddiges Road with St Thomas’ Square will be closed to through traffic, which will improve air quality and reduce emissions on surrounding residential streets. The one way section of Brenthouse Road between Darnley Road and Frampton Park Road will be reversed to allow vehicles to exit back onto Mare Street.

New trees and planting will be installed to make the area more pleasant and improve air quality. Junctions will be raised to allow step free crossing for pedestrians and to reduce vehicle speeds.

Work is due to start the week commencing 13 November, and should be completed by February, if there are no unexpected delays in construction.

This scheme will mean that over 100 Hackney roads are now closed to through traffic, as the Council continues its policy of removing cars from residential streets to reduce pollution and improve conditions for walking and cycling. Lots of residents said they would like us to do even more to reduce the number of cars in the area, so we will monitor the effect of this scheme on surrounding roads and take further action if needed.
