Now, drivers of old cars, engines of which are causing increased damage to the environment, will pay an additional fee at the entry to the center of London. Thus, the mayor's office intends to combat air pollution in the city. Since October 23rd, 2017, cars with Euro 4 or lower standard engines are required to pay additional £10 per day (in addition to the normal fare of £11.50) at the entry to the center of London. Thus, the owners of the old cars have to pay for entering the old part of the city £21.50.
As a rule, this requirement relates cars registered before 2006, and some of the models with registration date before 2008. London mayor Sadiq Khan is confident that such an initiative will give impetus to drivers to replace environmentally harmful cars with more eco-friendly ones faster. It should be noted that, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), 95% of London residents live in an environment where air pollution is much higher than normal.
