King’s Cross station was forced to close after protesters marching against Isis stormed the major transport hub.

Images emerged showing police officers lined up at an entrance to the station as scores of people waving flags amassed outside - writes standard.co.uk.

Other images showed a number of emergency vehicles parked outside following the incident at about 5.30pm on Sunday.

People on social media described "mass hysteria" as demonstrators "bashed on doors".

National Rail trains were unable to leave the station and services on six Tube lines were unable to stop as a result of the incident.

The station re-opened at about 7pm.

It comes hours after a similar pro-Kurdish demonstration brought Manchester Piccadilly to a standstill when protesters flooded the tracks.

The protests are believed to have been part of a day of action raising awareness of Turkish attacks on the Kurdish-held district of Afrin in northern Syria.

A spokesman for National Rail said: “Police are dealing with an incident outside the station at London King's Cross and this has resulted in the station being closed.

“Trains are currently able to depart from the station; however, customers are currently unable to access the platforms.

“Therefore, train services may be revised and diverted.
