The dream places of living in the countryside

Orkney Islands in Scotland was named the best region for living in rural areas, and the archipelago was honored with this for the second year in a row.

Halifax's annual survey Rural Areas Quality of Life Survey assesses in which region of the country there is the best place to live for those who want to live in rural areas. At the same time, various factors were taken into account, such as the level of crime, the level of employment of the population, the standards of education and the level of satisfaction with the way of life of the local population.

The second place was taken by Rutland from the East Midlands, followed by Wychavon from the West Midlands and Winchesterand from South East.

Halifax notes that the residents of Rutland can boast of the most spacious housing: on average, each house has 6,4 living rooms.

In general, almost one third of the top 50 regions for living in rural areas are located in the south and east of England. The list almost does not include the northeast (with the exception of Northumberland, which was only on the 95th place in the rating).

Monmouthshire was the only region in Wales that fell into the top 50. It took the 19th line of the rating.

Russell Galley, Managing Director of Halifax, said: "The Orkney Islands have won the leadership of all options for living in rural areas due to the high level of local employment, quality education, low crime and the cheerfulness of local residents, not to mention the impressive nature". Paying attention to how the quality of life in rural areas differs in different regions of the country, he noted that the southeast boasts of higher salaries, and the residents of the East Midlands enjoy more spacious housing. He added: "In favor of the southern coast, the sunny climate says, while the attractiveness factor of the northern regions is slightly lower real estate prices."
