Newham in top three best performing London boroughs for first choice primary school places

Nine out of ten Newham children will be starting their first preference primary school in September, figures released today (Monday) as part of National Offer Day have revealed.
​The statistics released from the Pan London Admissions Board showed Newham recorded the third best results in London with 91.7 per cent of families getting their top choice.
Newham also came in the top four London Boroughs for the number of pupils offered places in their top three preferred schools (98.04 per cent or 4,386 pupils).
Newham Council received 4,474 applications from residents for reception classes starting in September 2018 by the national closing date of 15 January 2018 (down 82 from last year). Almost 99 per cent (4,426 families) chose to apply online via the Pan London eAdmissions portal and only 1.07 per cent (48 families) chose to apply on paper.

  • 91.71% (4,103 pupils) -offered first preference
  • 98.04% (4,386 pupils) - offered a place at one of their first three preferred schools
  • 98.46% (4,405 pupils) -offered one of their preferred schools
  • 1.54% (69 pupils) could not be offered any of their preferred schools. These pupils were allocated alternative places at the closest school to their home which still had places available to them.
Grainne Siggins, Executive Director of Strategic Commissioning said: “The council has worked hard with schools and parents to ensure as many children as possible can attend the primary school of their choice from September this year.
“Newham’s investment in schools and its multi-million pound expansion programme has created thousands of new places, which has ensured the council is able to meet demand and secure a place for every child at one of the borough’s excellent primary schools.”
