What used to be a day when participating retailers simply gave away free comics has become a major event in London, said Cory Downing, as he staffed a table outside Heroes.
“It has grown; it is an amalgamation of everything that has to do with this culture,” he said.
“It is a celebration of comic book culture.”
The celebrations included chalk drawings on the street, face painting and demonstrations of cosplay, or costuming. Dundas also was lined with tables promoting various businesses and clubs.
Downing said the domination of Marvel and DC movies at the box office has helped comics move into the mainstream, allowing fans to be open about their love of the genre.
