The Play:Across the Pond: The British Invasion, starring Leisa Way and The Lonely Hearts Club Band, presented by Port Stanley Festival Theatre.
The Show:This musical revue created by Way presents the songs and the stories behind them that led to what’s known as the British Invasion of rock’n’ roll in North America in the 1960s and 1970s featuring the songs of bands including The Kinks, Herman’s Hermits, the Beatles and Rolling Stones and singers including Petula Clark, Lulu and Dusty Springfield and a few who followed after the invasion, such as Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics.
The Quote:“I had a sister who was 12 years older than me and I remember her dancing around the room with me on her hip and I developed a great love of these songs without knowing anything about them. So, in between the songs, we’ll tell stories about the artists, how they wrote the songs, their careers and what was going on in the world at the time they were on the radio.”
